The classification "Mediterranean" does not refer to a language family containing related languages. It is more like a geographic grouping used for non-Indo-European and non-Afro-Asiatic languages spoken around (or in close proximity to) the Mediterranean. The sub-groups under this classification do not have a proven relationship with each other.
